Blossoming Almond Branches

Almond trees dot the mountains of Cyprus. They are one of the first signs of rebirth in spring. It happens so quickly. The barren branches of winter become laden with pale pink, delicate flowers practically overnight.

The blossoms are a happy reminder of the miracle of spring and new life on the earth after the winter season. In Exodus 25, almond blossoms were carved on the menorah or lamp stand; and in Numbers 17, Aaron’s rod budded, blossomed, and gave almonds overnight.

The almond blossom is a manifestation of the presence of God. It is a symbol of the springing forth of His kingdom and a recurring sign of God’s ability to restore and renew.

When the almond branches are bursting with delicate, pale pink blossoms, God is breathing new hope into his sons and daughters once again.

“Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it” (Jeremiah 1:11-12).

Just like here in Israel. The Almond trees are in full bloom in spite of the lack of rain this year. You see, I am now a faithful reader of your Blog. So what does this make me?

    David,

I see that you are a faithful reader and an occasional commenter. I appreciate both greatly. I guess that makes you a like a father who says his daughter is the prettiest girl in the fourth grade, even though everyone knows it just isn’t true…

Thanks for being there through the years.

    Bonnie
