To Guatemala!

juliae

My daughter didn’t sleep all night. She spent most of it packing. About four in the morning, she actually crawled in bed with us–something she hasn’t done in a long time. We all talked and prayed about the trip; we shed some tears too…

We leave for Guatemala City in a few hours, and my daughter will meet her birth mother and siblings for the first time. Julia is the fifth child of seven, so she has six brothers and sisters to meet! She is 21 now and has never made a trip to her homeland. Now as a young adult seems like the perfect time.

Yesterday we had a great time buying gifts and preparing gift bags for her mother and each sibling. We also are bringing a framed photo for her mom to keep and some photos of Julia’s childhood.

When Julia first approached us about going, her daddy contacted the Guatemalan lawyer that helped us with her adoption. He said that he felt sure he could find Julia’s mother. Well, it took a couple of months, but we finally heard that she has been located. And in fact she has been praying to meet Julia someday as well.

We all are feeling the hand of God in this trip… the answer to prays prayed for many years.

I will be posting our experiences and photos of grand and tearful reunions as we go…

See you in Central America soon…
