This headline is an attention grabber, and in reality, I do believe it is a generalization that is untrue. This is a quote from an excerpt from Dennis Prager’s speech at the Freedom Center 20th anniversary Gala (2-20-08). Prager is an Orthodox Jew, conservative columnist, and talk-show host. He is a thinker and philosopher and certainly a favorite of mine. Log on here for the whole speech.
Dennis probably said this in the heat of the moment because he is passionate about conservative ideals. There are very intelligent and caring people on both sides of the culture war…
interesting- I’ll come back tomorrow and see the rest.
Are you starting up with me again! Most left wing people I know are extremly thoughtful and concerned people. I may not agree with all thier conclusions but these kinds of dramaitc and one dimenstional headlines are not conducive to honest dialogue. (Are you sorry now that I am a committed reader of your blog!)
David, I value your comments and opinions and mostly your friendship. Although we disagree on some things, thanks for reading my blog. That is an honor I cherish.
I have to admit this headline was an attention getter… not with you in mind at all. And it was not my line, rather Dennis Prager’s. I don’t agree with all of Prager’s lines or thinking, but that doesn’t mean I won’t post some of them.
Yes, the line is a generalization that is untrue and I do admit it. I also think Prager would admit it. He is very logical. I believe it said this in the heat of his speech and out of passion for conservative ideals.
On the other hand, the left media portrays most conservatives as rich Nazi-like warmongers or hillbillies with double-digit IQs which is also an unfair generalization.
The culture wars are very hot and sensitive. And this war may split our country someday. It is that hot. I thought Prager’s speech was very good, and that he had some very good things to say otherwise…
