Ever-Increasing Light
A Messianic Daily Devotional
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God” (Romans 13:1).
Shaking Fists
They’re shaking fists at you
when the status quo shifts.
Prancing with chipped shoulders
of entitlement, rising, gathering, hoarding
and calling it their own. Burning, breaking,
spewing evil in the name of self right, they
have forgotten about borrowed time or thin ice
or the gift of life itself.
Fearing and inciting fear, they blame You.
Yet You don’t flinch
at the grand and putrid march of mad rebellion.
The sight of it passed before Your eyes the
day you died as they pierced it into your
flesh and bruised Your heart to death. You
swallowed the poison and descended
into hell, laying a sword to the serpent’s neck,
You won the war. Rising with the rusty keys of
and death and hell to join Your Father’s side, angels
danced and sang as the victory of the ages ended.
You looked down from heaven to see they are still
shaking fists at you while Peter wept in a pool of
regret and Judas swung from a rope, alone
in the Field of Blood.

Peaceful protest is a hallmark of American society, and it can be very effective. Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands clad in pink knitted-beanies did that–peacefully protested for feminine rights on the first day of office for President Donald J. Trump. Although the marching amazingly was pretty much without violence, the protesters’ rhetoric remained angry. The celebrity-studded sea of pink saw red and spoke red! Madonna confessed her desire to blow up the White House. Ashley Judd read a poem that was too vile to repeat.
My Facebook feed yesterday was filled with protest too. Most of my friends are believers through the blood of Messiah, Yeshua, and some are mocking or mad or just above it all. This is more painful. They are protesting Trump’s lack of suitability and character for such high office and position. And I am gearing up for a few months of shouting matches and a kind of on-going war, praying the protest will remain peaceful. Still it hurts.
Everyone shakes a fist at disappointment or injustice at some point. Now dissidents are shaking their fists at President Trump, but really they are protesting God. Why? No one comes to power except by the power of God alone. If we as believers in Yeshua don’t believe that, then something foundational is missing. We don’t have to like the ruling authorities; but we must recognize, they came to placement by the God of the universe.
I wish I could defend the 45th president of the USA’s character to the world. I cannot. But I can defend the biblical truth that; although I do not understand why right now, I know he came to power because God allowed it. Just like he allowed Obama before him and Bush before him and a myriad of others. His ways are past finding out. I must trust and wait. I must and will believe the best.

Work it into daily life…
Pray for those in authority (I Tim 2:2). Pray more than you protest, but feel free to peacefully protest. When you are disappointed or frustrated with your government leaders, appeal to ruling authority respectfully. Go through the right channels of appealing to your state representatives. Pink, red, or purple — don’t shake your fists — bend your knee.

QUESTIONS AND OBSERVATIONS ABOUT SABBATH KEEPING BY STEVE FINNELL
Why do believers in Christ who claim to be sabbath keepers fail to keep the laws of the sabbath? Christians were never instructed to remember the sabbath and keep it holy.
The command to remember the sabbath and keep it holy was given to Israel and Israel alone. It was not restated under the New Covenant.
Deuteronomy 5:1-15 Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I am speaking today in your hearing, that you may learn them and observe them carefully…….12 ‘Observe the sabbath day to keep it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you……
New Testament instructions concerning Old Covenant sabbath keeping.
Romans 14:5-6 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day , observes it for the Lord…..
Colossians 2:14-16….Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day—
Christians are free to worship any day they wish, be it Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc. Christians are free to work any day they wish. There is no New testament command to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.
SO-CALLED MODERN DAY SABBATH KEEPERS DO NOT KEEP THE SABBATH NOR DO THEY PUNISH THEIR MEMBERS WHO BREAK IT.
Exodus 31:15 For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a sabbath of complete rest, holy to the Lord, whoever does work on the sabbath day shall surely be put to death.
Numbers 15:32-36 Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering wood on the sabbath day……..35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” …….
THERE ARE ONLY FALSE SABBATH KEEPERS TODAY.
REMEMBER THE SABBATH AND KEEP IT HOLY IS NOT A CHRISTIAN LAW.
