Writers, especially poets, often endeavor to incorporate the magic of falling or slanting light into their musings—the way it reflects off the water, shines through the trees, or forms shadows on the wall. They are occasionally criticized for their feeble attempts—metaphors too worn out with over-usage and too prosaic.
How do you capture and bend life-sustaining sun shafts beaming down from the fiery lakes of what we call the Sun into a metaphor or timely lesson about life? Truth is—few do it well, and nobody views light just like you do.
The book of John tells that Jesus was present in the beginning. His life is seen in or as light. That light illuminates the darkness and cannot be overtaken. Perhaps all light is only a replica of that LIGHT, His light! I can’t see light in all refracted and glorious displays and not think of Jesus and long for more! Oh the sheer beauty of God’s light slathered around and sustaining us!
There is nothing more intimately pervasive in the material world than light and darkness. There is no escaping it. If you want to know what God looks like in this world, then look at Jesus. If you want to know what Jesus looks like, then look at light. To think that we are the sons of light is exhilarating! That the whole world is groaning for the revelation of the sons of light. We groan too, that we may be revealed in God’s brilliance, piercing the blackness of this world.
We arrived to our little cabin a few days ago in Lake City—the happy place where we spend Septembers to view the autumn colors and yes the light shining through the trees. For me, it doesn’t have to be a burnished gold aspen tree. It can be any tree, even the common evergreen variety in these glorious mountains.
So this is just my slice-of-life this morning. As profound as the light beaming through the pine needles is today, I just can’t think of any beauty compared to Him. There is sunshine in my soul today, and I love to share it!
Once again I am moved by the word you shared. I too have enjoyed the Lake City many times. Wish I could blink my eyes and be there. Thank you and Wayne for the way you guys represent the Lord so well.
Thank you, Jeff!
