Seven Goals for 2008

  1) Spend more time with family. 2) Begin to learn some ragtime piano pieces like Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer. Although classical music is fun to play, it is not always fun to hear. But ragtime piano is always fun to play and hear. There is nothing like ragtime piano!

Stopping for Death

The American culture shines in crisis–think about the firemen laying their lives down for hundreds and hundreds in the Twin Towers in NYC at 9/11. Think about the effort that has been expended in saving the one child who has slipped into a well–the hours of strategy and effort for the rescue of one precious life. We shine at the time of…

Maine’s Coast

I wrote this poem on the craggy coast of Maine with the churning waves hammering against the ancient rocks.

haiku: American Society 2007

I wrote these haiku on culture, choice, and contentment on the plane on our way to South America.  ********************* Distinction comes in two ways: hardship or needles that carve a tattoo. ********************* Distinction is the gift of achievement or the piercing on a lip. ***********************

haiku: soaring

Last week we had a meeting in the Anatole Hilton. My soul feasted on the view from the 29th floor. The sky, clouds, buildings, maze of highways, and landscape took my breath away. Perspective makes all the difference.  Everything looked completely different and new from that vantage point. The view mesmerized me. But it was the birds that…

haiku: The Future

Tomorrow is what  I cannot see, its image is dark in the day.

Escapism

Last night we picked up the guest speaker for our banquet with a group of special friends and went to a restaurant near the hotel. We celebrated my birthday a day late. Wayne read that Coal Vine’s had received great reviews, so we tried it. I really liked the place. It is an upscale, yet…
