Jerusalem is preparing for the Jewish New Year, Rosh HaShanah. The city is scurrying to buy Gefilte fish, special Sabbath bread, apples and honey, matza ball soup (one of my favorites!) and all the special foods of the holiday.
These two Orthodox boys playing on the streets are in another world today… occupied with the simplicities of childhood, as they should be.
I am reminded that we must enter God’s kingdom as children, unpretentious, with nothing in hand and no pre-conceived ideas, just leaning on our Redeemer.
I am going to enjoy the High Holy Days here in Israel like a child this year… that is as if I have never experienced them before… with new eyes and heart. I am eager to hear and see Him in a new light.
