We celebrated the Jewish New Year last evening with dear friends. They live not far from us in Jerusalem. The meal was amazing with four, round braided Sabbath breads, some with raisins, cinnamon, plain, and whole wheat. We feasted on it. I kid you not, it was better than any dessert.
Later we had a great meal, but the best part for me was the dipping of apples into honey. This is traditional for Jews all over the world on Rosh HaShanah. It symbolizes the hope for a sweet new year.
And I have a feeling that as we stand on the threshold of a new beginning here in Jerusalem, the months ahead will be sweet indeed.
