Measurements
Bridegroom Creator
showing off for His pure bride—red
cardinal, deep blue crystal lake,
purple mountains, dancing deer, buffalo
upon the plane, sweet honeycomb, and
silver morning mist. Measure and calculate
the mighty kingdoms of life as they quiver
and swell with joy before Me, as they quake
and breathe with beauty through the cycle
of earth’s seasons settled in order.
My faithfulness is carved into their laws
until the dim puff of a dying star. But see Me most
by the roughness of my scars. Run your fingers over
the wounds. Press your hand into my
side. Measure Me by these. When you’ve drunk the
last drop of the ocean’s frothy green swell
and filled your downy bed with salty stem
and stalk, frosty flake, and mossy fern, when
you have collected the last shell of pearl and stuffed
your bags with spores and lichen and the silver
sparkle of glistening gold… then
find your name
emblazoned upon My palms with
love flames as fierce as death.
