August’s End

on

Bathed in sunlight

and surrounded

with a thickly

woven emerald

carpet

and a singing

chorus of flowers in

rioting colors,

summer’s glorious

days draw down

to a few.

It’s beauty

though forever

remains

ephemeral and

perpetual

at once.

Here I find

strength

in the hope

of You, Creator.

Father. Friend.

Confidant. Savior.

Here I am

fattened for the

brown debris

of autumn

and white, silent

bones of winter.

I cling to You–

who changes

not ever–

yesterday,

today,

and forever.

-Bonnie Saul Wilks

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2.
