Who Can Measure the Weight of a Word?

Jesse Jackson’s recent “off the record” comments into a hot mike are causing quite a stir. Many are saying he is no longer relavant. Many are criticizing him. He has apologized, but I bet he wished he could take those words back. Here’s the story.

The truth is some words and the reaction they cause are irrevocable. Recently, I said something I wish I wouldn’t have. Everytime I think about those words, my heart aches. In fact, I feel like I am going to throw up sometimes.

The solution for me was to ask forgiveness to both God and man. And now to forgive myself. As a believer, I am so glad I have that option. That is what I love about the Christian lifestyle… every prayer of sincere repentance is a new lease on life.

Oh, I will still reap the consequences of those fatal words for a time… because of the law of “sowing and reaping” that exists in the universe… for every action there is a reacion. “God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows that will he reap.”

But what a joy to hang my life on this truth: “If we confess our sins, He [Jesus] is willing and able to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I just couln’t live a day with that comforting knowledge.
