How Different My Life

How Different My Life

Dry crimson leaf floating

lightly above water,

carelessly down river

gliding

in search of nothing.

Caring not day’s short light

will freeze white and solid.

Encased in ice,

entombed and suspended,

immobile between heaven and earth,

until spring’s thaw

rushes you clear

on that first sunny day

back to dust.

How different my life:

anchored

propelled and angled,

pressed and indentured.

Purpose conquering meaning.

Transcending narrow space,

suspended,

mobile between heaven and earth;

until spring’s thaw

translates me clear

beyond dust.

Resurrected.

Gliding above water.
