(On the shores of the Sea of Galilee at sunset)
I Hear Him Laugh
Flaming Tongues of Fire
burned my alphabet,
consumed the charred
letters to sterling silver—
which set my feet dancing
in cartwheels, turning
and tumbling in wild
elation—which set my
arms flapping, scaling the
heights, skipping over
rugged mountains, and
suffocating desert places—
which set my legs jumping,
jumping up
and down—crushing an ancient
serpent’s head.
Joy, joy, joy the oil
of a glad, glad heart slathered
my soul down between my toes.
Consuming Fire
consume me. Cleanse me.
Burn me—the tongue of deceit,
the belly of fear, and the
jawbone of pride and the bowels
of bitterness. Reduce me to ashes.
Turn me sterling silver.
As I yield, I hear Him laugh
while the Flaming Tongues of
Fire lap the dross pure.

thank you. Beautiful. EXACTLY what I need to reread over and over again for myself.
