To spurn all of this—
To credit no one for the systematic order and glory
of the universe—that He
spoke into existence by the breath of a Word,
conceived by the sharp-edge of wit, unmatched,
cared for by the extravagant heart of a benevolent Father,
and held together by the surge and swell of unbending justice and unmerited mercy blended
(Again, to spurn all of this…)
is to descend the slow, steep downward spiral into the sleep of self-sufficient shadow.
To credit God for the magnitude, the universe’s treasures excessively lavished and incomprehensible of beauty and wisdom—both secreted and open—contained within the profound
wellsprings of creation is—
a chastising shake awake to
vitality,
immortality
from the clamorous
stupor of spiritual slumber.
